The mission of the Department of English and Foreign Languages is to empower students to develop competencies in English and foreign languages for personal and professional growth as well as promote Christian values which will enable them to serve their community and contribute to the well-being of society.
The Department of English and Foreign Languages has five main goals:
- To provide the skills for a variety of professional positions according to the local and international workforce demands.
- To encourage students to apply writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills in English and foreign languages in interpersonal and collaborative interactions.
- To apply critical, research, and creative thinking skills in all aspects of the English and foreign languages to their professional endeavors.
- To integrate the necessary technology and information literacy skills in their professional careers in an ethical and legal manner.
- To exemplify in their personal and professional lives an understanding of the values of the Catholic Church.
English is the third most spoken language in the world. It is useful for cultural purposes, tourism, future employment, technology, diplomacy, and in business communication. English will open doors to employment opportunities, regardless of subject area.
Más de 200 millones de personas hablan francés en los cinco continentes. El francés es la lengua extranjera más estudiada después del inglés, y la novena lengua más hablada del mundo. Es la lengua internacional para la cocina, la moda, el teatro, las artes visuales, la danza y la arquitectura. Saber francés es tener acceso a los grandes textos de la literatura francesa y francófona en versión original, y también al cine y la canción.
La concentración menor en lenguas extranjeras consiste de 18 créditos. El estudiante podrá escoger de entre los siguientes: francés, alemán, italiano, ruso, japonés, chino mandarín, coreano, portugués y creole. Nuestro Laboratorio de Idiomas cuenta con la más moderna tecnología para el aprendizaje y práctica de idiomas.
A Bachelor’s Degree in English provides you with skills for a variety of positions in: international industries, research organizations, educational settings, publishing companies, financial institutions, communications, and government administration.
An English major often seeks careers as:
translator, publisher, production assistant, public relation representative, reporter, correspondent or technical writer or writer author, Bilingual customer services agent, Assistant manager, Columnist, Critic Editor, and English, French, or other foreign languages teacher.
